The Masonic Lodge Tomalpin *253 have once again proven to be a great supporter of the Cessnock District Rescue Squad. The Lodge provides the Rescue Squad with a donation every year and as a result of hearing about the recent theft of chainsaws from a rescue vehicle at the Cessnock Base, a Lodge representative immediately contacted the squad.
“The Masonic Lodge Tomalpin’s Worshipful Master Mr Richard Gainer contacted the squad and offered to bring the yearly donation forward and purchase a new chainsaw to replace one of the stolen saws” said squad PR Officer Jason Sattler. “When presenting the saw to the squad Mr Gainer praised the local businesses in the Weston and Kurri Kurri areas for supporting the Lodge’s Charity Drive which enables it to disperse funds to vital community organisations such as the Rescue Squad” Mr Sattler added.
As highlighted in last week’s addition of The Advertiser the Cessnock District Rescue Squad’s Cessnock Base was broken into recently for the third time in less than twelve months. The three break-ins have resulted in thousands of dollars of hard earned funds diverted away from vital equipment along with hundreds of extra administrative hours for the squad’s volunteer members.
“It restores your faith in humanity when community organisations such as the Masonic Lodge Tomalpin rally behind the squad in direct response to the selfish and callous vandalism of societies dregs. The squad would again like to thank the Masonic Lodge Tomalpin and the proprietor of Mallaby Sheetmetal who have both donated to the squad in response to the recent theft” Mr Sattler stated.
Due to the repeated incidents of break-ins the squad has been forced to further increase security arrangements at the base, resulting in more expenditure of the squads funding. The contributions mentioned above are greatly appreciated and go some way to reducing the burden on the squad, however the fact remains that due to the stupidity of some idiots many thousands of dollars have been spent on items other than vital rescue equipment essential for the ongoing operation of the Rescue Squad.
“I would again like to remind all local businesses of the Business Sponsorship scheme in which your business receives quarterly advertising in The Advertiser. Apart from all other benefits, Pedens Hotel, a proud Business Sponsor has offered $100 vouchers as an incentive for more businesses to come on board” Mr Sattler said. “One business has recently thrown its support behind the squad and received a voucher and there are nine more up for grabs” Mr Sattler added.
