The Cessnock District Rescue Squad was called to a single vehicle accident on Mt View Road Mt View shortly after 7am on Australia Day. The female driver and sole occupant lost control of the vehicle causing it to veer of the road and collide with a large tree stump, coming to rest on its roof. The woman was trapped in the upturned and unstable vehicle, therefore stabilising the vehicle was the priority for Rescue personnel. Once stabilised Rescue personnel used hydraulic spreaders and cutters to gain access to the women through the passenger side of the vehicle. Upon being assessed and stabilised by Paramedics the women was removed from the vehicle and loaded into a waiting Ambulance. The woman was then transferred to a nearby parking area where the Westpac Rescue Helicopter had landed. Upon being transferred into the helicopter the woman was flown to the John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition with possible chest and spinal injuries along with other minor injuries. The vehicle came to rest approximately 10 metres off the road so there were no major interruptions to traffic throughout the incident.
