Rescue Squad attends 2 serious accidents

At Approximately 5:45pm Cessnock District Rescue Squad responded to a two car Motor vehicle accident with reports of two persons trapped, Upon arrival of Cessnock District Rescue Squad, members worked on the driver’s side of Mitsubishi Lancer, using the Jaws of Life and hydraulic cutters  to remove the driver’s door and gain access to the  casualty as the male driver of the vehicle was trapped by the dash, Cessnock District Rescue Squad members then used a hydraulic ram to push the dash away from the drivers knees and legs so the NSW Ambulance Paramedics could treat the driver for possible leg and shoulder fractures and other injuries

Upon arrival of further Cessnock District Rescue Squad members a number of casualties had to be treated, the female of the other vehicle was reported to have been ejected from the vehicle and was lying on the side of the road and Cessnock District Rescue Squad members treated and stabilised the women for facial injuries and a possible leg fracture until further NSW Ambulance Paramedics arrived, Both drivers were flown by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter to John Hunter Hospital.

The 2 passengers from the Mitsubishi Lancer a young boy suffered a possible fractured leg and woman with minor injuries were treated at the scene and taken by NSW Ambulance by road to the John Hunter Hospital

Whist Cessnock District Rescue Squad members were assisting the casualties at the Millfield accident,  A report of another person trapped accident  at approximately 6:15pm was advised on Mount View Rd 1km North of Bimbadeen with reports of a car and kangaroo colliding with powerlines down, A Cessnock District Rescue Squad unit was dispatched to this accident and once on scene it was determined that the driver of the vehicle was not trapped and  was assisted by Cessnock District Rescue Squad until NSW Ambulance Paramedics  arrived and transported the women to hospital.

Cessnock District Rescue Squad members remained on scene at Millfield and assisted NSW Police crash investigation while Wollombi rd was closed in both directions. Cessnock District Rescue Squad members remained on scene till approximately 1am and Wollombi rd was re opened a short time later.
