The Cessnock District Rescue Squad was called to assist Paramedics in bushland at Aberdare following a motorcycle accident at around 5.30pm Wednesday 9th. A young man came off his bike on a dirt track in the bushland near Melbourne Street with no vehicular access to the site. Due to the seriousness of the initial reports to 000 and the potential complexities all emergency services were activated. Paramedics assessed the young man and although suffering no immediate life threatening injuries a request for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter was made to facilitate rapid transport to the John Hunter Hospital for more definitive assessment. NSW Fire and Rescue personnel carried the young man out of the bush on a spine board and assisted Paramedics with loading him into the Ambulance whilst Cessnock District Rescue Squad personnel established a landing site for the helicopter. Paramedics further stabilised the young man while waiting for the helicopter which landed just off Melbourne Street. Following further assessment by Intensive Care Paramedics the young man was loaded into the helicopter and flown to Hospital with possible spinal and internal injuries along with a suspected fractured arm.
Rescue squad personnel were responded to a motor vehicle accident on Broke Road Pokolbin at around 1.30pm Tuesday 8th. Upon arrival of Paramedics however it was evident no persons were trapped so Rescue personnel were called off and returned to base.
Squad personnel have continued to attend multiple calls to remove snakes from premises throughout the district. The recent hot weather has caused a lot of snake movement and all residents are reminded to be very vigilant. If you see a snake do not attempt to catch or kill it, call 49912444 immediately and if safe to do so monitor the snake’s movements as this greatly increases the chances of a successful capture.
