The Cessnock District Rescue Squad was called to Middle Road Paxton at 2.30 am Saturday 4th to remove a large tree that had fallen across the road. Squad personnel worked quickly with chainsaws to remove the tree and clear the road shortly before 4am. However any hopes of returning to bed were put to rest when upon completion of this task the squad was responded to Old North Road Rothbury. A man had called 000 stating he was trapped in his car after driving into a flooded causeway. Upon arriving at the scene the male driver and sole occupant was on the roof of the vehicle which was approximately five to six metres from the bank. Rescue personnel were able to throw a rope line to the man and pull him to safety. The man was uninjured and did not require any treatment or transportation to hospital.
