The Cessnock District Rescue Squad responded to multiple calls for assistance following the recent inclement weather. Squad personnel attended many locations throughout the district with the predominate theme being leaking roofs. Various causes for these leaks were identified and repairs such as replacing broken roof tiles, applying tarps, cleaning out gutters and applying silicon were carried out by squad personnel. Several calls were also received for trees and tree branches that had fallen due to the wind and wet ground.
At 5.30pm, whilst carrying out roof repairs the squad was requested by Police to attend The Great North Road south of Laguna to provide scene illumination for Crash Investigation Officers following a serious motor cycle collision. Three members responded in Rescue 1 and remained at the scene assisting Police for around four hours.
Residents are reminded to clean out their gutters, tidy up or secure items in their yards, have any roof damage repaired and any suspect trees inspected.
