Rescue Squad Attends Wollombi Accident

On the 20/9/2013 at around 10:10am Cessnock District Rescue Squad  responded to reports of a accident on Great North Rd Cross of Christina St Wollombi. On arrival of Cessnock District Rescue Squad began to work on the passenger side of the vehicle which a woman whom was in  the front passenger seat  of the vehicle was trapped by the legs as the dash had been forced back as a result of the impact with a tree. Rescue Squad members used Hydralic cutters and Spreaders to remove the passenger door and B-Pillar of the vehicle, due to the woman’s lower leg injuries Rescue Squad members also had to remove the passenger seat of the vehicle to free the woman, Rescue Squad members assisted NSW Ambulance Paramedics onto a spine board and loaded the woman into the Westpac Rescue Helicopter which transported the woman in a stable condition to John Hunter Hospital.  Rescue Squad members remained on scene for a short time while the vehicle was removed, 1 lane of traffic was affected during the operation, however both lanes were open a short time later.
